Be a part of this exciting Guinness World Record attempt – Cairns WE CAN DO IT!! And it is FREE to enter!!!!
Active Living has ZUMBA classes twice weekly as part of the program. They are free to attend and are great FUN. Whether you are a regular attendee or trying ZUMBA for the first time we would love you to be part of this attempt and WE NEED YOU to make history!
Ever wondered the origins of the word Zumba? It is a Columbian word meaning to "move fast and have fun". And that is exactly what we are expecting on 21 February, when we attempt to break the Zumba World Record.
All participants will get giveaways and there are great prizes for groups.
Start working on your friends and work mates!!!! There will also be a post event party at The Pier.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
To be part of the world Record attempt you only need to be at Fogarty Park before 5.30pm on 21 February. Our team of staff and instructors will show you what to do. The ZUMBA class will last for 30 minutes – IT WILL BE FUN!
DO I NEED TO REGISTER?
No need to register– we’ll be counting people as they walk through the Official Entry Gate at Fogarty Park on the day.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are suitable for exercising on a warm summer’s evening – we want you to be comfortable while you are having fun!
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Please bring yourself and your friends!!
Please also bring a bottle of water for yourself.
Please don’t bring your valuables with you, you will be moving around Fogarty Park and won’t be able to keep sight of valuables at all times – there are some lockers available around Fogarty Park and the Lagoon area for a small charge if you wish to use them.
WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS?
You can bring your kids down, they just won't get counted as part of the attempt. We have mums join in our regular classes. We are also investigating some kids activities and will keep you posted!
WHO WILL BE THE INSTRUCTOR FOR THE CLASS?
Brooke “ZUMBA” Marshall is Active Living’s regular ZUMBA instructor – full of energy and a real passion for ZUMBA, Brooke and her team will be taking the class from the Fogarty Sound Shell – they will take you through all the steps and moves – it will be FUN!.
IS THERE A FACEBOOK PAGE?
YES! You can find us on www.facebook.com/ActiveLivingCairns where you can get the most up to date information about the ZUMBA world record attempt plus information about other free classes on offer through the Cairns Regional Council Active Living program.
WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF THE RECORD LARGEST ZUMBA CLASS?
This record is for the greatest number of people attending and participating in a ZUMBA class at a single venue, in this instance it will be at Fogarty Park.
WHAT IS THE CURRENT RECORD?
The current record for the Largest Zumba® class is 2012, and is held by Zumbawear UK. They set the record in Twickenham in the UK back in 2011. That means we need at least 2013 participants to break the record!
CAN I TAKE A BREAK DURING THE CLASS?
You can take a short break to keep hydrated…. But no break can be longer than 2 minutes, otherwise we can’t count you in the official tally. But the class will be shorter than normal, and will also have a warm up and warm down component.
CAN I DROP OUT OF THE CLASS?
If you drop out at any point during the class you can’t be counted as part of the count. If you’re deemed to not be fully participating in the lesson we have to disqualify you from the count as well, just try and keep moving, even if it isn’t exactly what the instructor is doing!
WILL I BE PHOTOGRAPHED?
There will be photography and filming on the day. The images may be used in the media, in Cairns Regional Council Promotion or by Guinness World Records™ if we break the record. By coming to Fogarty Park you’re accepting that your image may be used for these purposes.
So grab your family, friends and anyone else you can drag off the street and come down and be part of history.
Cairns – We can smash this record! See you there!!
