Here is your chance to be part of history!!!! And it is FREE to enter!!!!
Join us as we attempt to break the world record for the most people participating in a Zumba class at the one time in the one location.
No experience necessary....you don't even have to be all that co-ordinated...you just need the desire to have fun and help put Cairns on the world record map.
The Cairns Regional Council runs free Zumba classes at Fogarty Park weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays, with class numbers averaging out around the 400 mark. Anyone who joins in on one of these classes will acknowledge how much fun they have with great music, lots of laughter and great exercise in our wonderful outdoors.
To steal the World Record off the Brits we will need a little help from the rest of Cairns and all our fantastic tourists.
The event will kick off at 3pm with music, entertainment, warm-ups, displays and giveaways. All participants have to be counted and in position by 5.30pm after which time the gates will be closed and no additional people can join the class. So please make sure you are here as early as possible.
All counted participants who finish the 30 minute class will receive a certificate and other giveaways including Grill'd burger vouchers.
There will be prizes for best dressed groups and individuals. So grab your family, friends and anyone else you can drag off the street and come down and be part of history.
Esplanade Lagoon
Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns’ best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking the Barrier Reef and Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade
Lifeguards are on duty 6am - 10pm in the summer months (October - March) & 7am - 9pm in the winter months (April - September). The Lagoon is closed for maintenance every Wednesday until midday.
Lagoon Programmed Maintenance Temporary Closure 2012
Our beautiful lagoon will need some routine maintenance in 2012. We will be upgrading and all sorts of things that helps to keep the lagoon working and that help to make the lagoon a wonderful place for you to visit. These works will require that the Lagoon is drained of all water.
The lagoon will be closed for swimming from 4 June 2012 with an expected reopening of 23 June 2012.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and are sure that you will understand that this temporary closure is necessary to allow us to maintain the very high standards we strive for and that the lagoon's visitors expect. Please note that the Lagoon Parklands will still be fully accessible and that Muddy's playground and the Funship Playground will still be open.
